Your brand in your users' inbox
The BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) Brand Verification Certificate allows companies to display their logo next to emails in the recipient's inbox, reinforcing user trust and security. To implement BIMI, a VMC certificate is required that validates the identity of the organization and guarantees the authenticity of the logo through a DMARC record in “quarantine” or “reject” policies. In order for a certifying authority to validate the logo, it must be registered with a recognized patent and trademark office. The logo, in secure SVG format, is published in the DNS, and the certification authority verifies both the rights to the brand and the corporate authenticity. This solution increases brand visibility, protects against phishing, and is compatible with major email providers, creating a secure and recognizable environment for business communications.

Frequently Asked Questions about Trademark Validation Certificates (BIMI)
- What is a Brand Validation Certificate (BIMI)?
A Brand Validation Certificate, or BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification), allows companies to display their logo next to emails in the recipient's inbox, reinforcing authenticity and improving user trust in the sender.
- What are the benefits of a BIMI certificate?
BIMI improves brand visibility in emails, reduces the risk of phishing, and increases recipient trust by being able to visually identify that the email comes from a legitimate and verified source.
- What is a VMC certificate and why is it necessary for BIMI?
A VMC certificate (Verified Mark Certificate) is a certificate issued by a certification authority that verifies the brand's rights to its logo. It is necessary to guarantee the authenticity of the logo displayed and ensure that only legitimate emails from the organization can carry this image.
- What technical requirements must be met to obtain a BIMI certificate?
You need to have a DMARC record set with authentication policies set to “quarantine” or “reject,” a logo in secure SVG format, and DNS settings that allow the logo to be identified. The CA must also validate the company’s rights to the logo.
- How is brand authenticity ensured in BIMI?
Authenticity is ensured by the VMC certificate, which requires the CA to verify the company’s trademark rights and corporate documents. Additionally, only emails that comply with DMARC authentication will display the logo.
- What format should the logo be for BIMI?
The logo must be in secure SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format following the SVG-P/S specifications, and must contain only the brand image, with no other graphics or data.
- Which email providers support BIMI?
BIMI is supported by email providers such as Gmail and Yahoo, and the list of supported providers continues to grow as the BIMI standard becomes more widely adopted.
- How does BIMI improve email security?
BIMI strengthens DMARC authentication, ensuring that only emails from authorized senders can display the logo. This reduces exposure to phishing and helps users easily identify legitimate emails.
- What is the process for implementing a BIMI certificate?
The process includes setting up and verifying a DMARC record, issuing a VMC certificate through a certificate authority, and publishing the logo in the DNS. Once complete, the logo will automatically appear in verified emails.
- How long is a BIMI certificate valid?
The validity of the certificate depends on the certificate authority, although it is usually issued for one year, with renewal options to ensure that the brand logo remains visible and verified in emails.
- What are the requirements for VMC issuance?
- High-assurance validation process.
- Having the DMARC policy for the email domain and the organization configured for quarantine and rejection.
- The trademarked logo registered in an approved jurisdiction.
- The trademarked logo file formatted as SVG with Tiny (1.2) profile in a square aspect ratio.
- Can government agencies use BIMI to display their logos in emails?
Government departments and agencies can leverage BIMI to display their logos. They will need a Government Mark Certificate (GMC) and have DMARC for the email domain and the organization's domain set to a quarantine or reject policy.
- What is a Verified Mark Certificate (GMC)?
A GMC verifies the logo granted by law, regulation, treaty, or other government action to a government agency or department and allows their authorized logo to be displayed in email communications based on BIMI guidelines.
- What is the approximate time it takes to obtain BIMI through a Verified Mark Certificate if starting without DMARC or a trademarked logo?
DMARC compliance takes, on average, five to eight weeks, depending on the number of sources that need to be set up and the speed at which the necessary registrations can be implemented. It can take three to six months, or longer, to obtain a registered trademark, depending on the country.
- Is BIMI available only for B2C email deployment? What about B2B email?
BIMI will display the registered logo on any supported email provider as long as the email domain and the organization domain (if relevant) are enabled for BIMI. Note: Google and Apple only support BIMI with Verified Mark certificates.
- Is there a limit to how long your Verified Mark certificate is valid?
They are currently valid for one year.
