Availability of .FR IDNs

As of May 3,2012, it will be possible for anyone to register domain names under the .fr extension including the following characters (a, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, ç, è, é, ê, ë, ì, í, î, ï, ñ, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, ù, ú, û, ü, ý, ÿ, ?, ß)

This means that, from May 3 to July 3, 2012 there will be a so-called "Priority Registration" period, enabling holders of domain names with .fr, extensions to file "IDN" variants of their domain names.

The opening for all of them will take place on July 3, 2012.

Liberalization comes to the .PT domains

Starting on 1st of March sunrise period for .PT domains will be open during 60 days.

To request .PT domains during sunrise, domain must

1. Coincides with the name, abbreviation or acronym of the domain holder

2. Coincides with a name of a nominative trademark (inpi,oami, wipo)

After the period of sunrise, which will extend until the 1st of May, everyone will be able to register .pt domains without restrictions.

ICANN opens the register of extensions of generics domains (gTLD)

Today 12 January ICANN opens the register of extensions of generic domains in Internet (gTLD).

From now on, any organization, brand, city or territory will be able to have their own domain extension on Internet. Today's decision is the biggest expansion ever, as the current system is based on 22 top level domains (TLD) as well as the country-code top level domains (ccTLD) which add up to 250. This is one of the biggest changes in the for decades of Internet history.

This opening will not only be addressed to organizations, who will be able to have their own generic domains (.google o .yahoo) but also to communities, regions and cities which will be able to use relevant extensions (.gal, .berlin, .mad, .bcn,...), which include the cities name or any organization who wants to create a new extension and commercialize it (.bank, .eco, .car,...).

For some organizations, this is the ideal opportunity to assure their organization's name as a domain “.mybrand” and this represents a significant market opportunity. It also provides a bigger control of organizations on their domain web, which allows them to protect their brand and create confidence on the digital world which is getting more complex.

Also, the domains can be registered in any language or script, which means there are infinite possibilities for domain names. ICANN doesn't reject an auction system if there are more than one legitimate candidate for the same domain name. According to some members of this entity, this opening will change the way people find information on the Internet and how businesses plan and structure their online presence. The domain endings will include any word in any language (including characters from any alphabet), allowing organizations from all the world to commercialize their brand, products, community or the cause of innovations.

New gTLD Program Timeline:

- 12 April 2012: Application window is closed. Applications will be published 15 days later.

- November 2012: Initial Evaluation Results Publication.

- From that moment registrars will be accepted and the first domains could be active on 2013.

The cost of each of this domain extensions will be more than 180.000 dollars and operating this registration will imply an annual payment of 25.000 dollars. This type of prices is thought to prevent the illegal use of these domains. Once the request period is closed there will probably be no more opportunities in 2 or 3 years. ICANN expects between 300 and 1.000 new TLD's which could be created at the start of the new program.

The registry of .XXX top-level domain (TLD) officially closed its Sunrise A and Sunrise B periods with more than 80,000 applications for domain names.

The .XXX Sunrise period results far exceeds those of any other new sTLD, including .mobi, .asia and even that of .co that re-launched last year with a significant marketing campaign.

"Sunrise B applicants not included"

During the Sunrise A and Landrush phases is required to complete the validation process for the membership in the .xxx community (sponsored community).

Please see the following steps for a correct domain application:

- Create the registration order through your http://www.entorno.com/ control panel.

- ICM sends the applicant an introduction email to the registrant contact email address provided with their application. The email includes a validation link.

- The applicant clicks on the validation link in the ICM email and is directed to the ICM Membership Application.

- The applicant creates an account by filling out the ICM Membership Application. This has to be done only one time per email account, not per domain. The application is free of charge.

- ICM will provide the applicant with a PIN code by phone, and the applicant will input the PIN in the designated area in the Membership Application process.

- The verification process is completed and the registrant gets an account overview with all relevant information: membership token, account settings, information on all domains he applied for.
